Callahan, Inc. was recently honored with an Excellence in Construction (EICA) Green Award from the Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. (ABC). The award, presented each year to construction projects that maintain the highest performance standards, recognized Callahan’s Falmouth Ice Arena project for its environmentally “Green” techniques and sustainable design.
The award, presented at Granite Links Golf Club in Quincy, MA, was decided upon by an expert panel of diverse judges who based their decision on quality, complexity, and effective utilization of resources, amongst other criteria.
“It was important to the owner to be environmentally friendly” said Patrick Callahan, President of Callahan, Inc.” The entire roof and two-thirds of the parking lot are covered with over 3,000 solar panels. “The arena is also a net zero building that relies on exceptional energy conservation and on-site renewables to meet all of its heating, cooling and electricity requirements. The solar takes care of 100 percent of the energy needs of the building and the arena is the only one of its kind in the region and uses half the power of similar arenas
