Callahan Construction Managers (Callahan) announces the company’s continued philanthropic efforts amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. The company has provided donations to various healthcare workers and first responders, who are working tirelessly to protect and serve their communities.

On May 7, as the pandemic continued and healthcare workers tirelessly worked to treat COVID-19 patients, Callahan partnered with Boston restaurant Aceituna Grill to provide lunch to the staff at the Manet Community Health Center in Quincy, MA. This philanthropic effort was executed in honor of National Nurses Week, and Callahan was able to supply food for approximately 50 Manet employees.

“We truly appreciate the generosity, engagement and care expressed by Callahan Construction Managers and we are excited to forge a new partnership together, said Cynthia Sierra, CEO at Manet Community Health Center. “Our staff was uplifted by the fantastic lunch that Callahan Construction provided from Aceituna Grill in recognition of National Nurses Week. On behalf of everyone at Manet, thank you!”

In addition to the Manet Community Health Center, Callahan has worked to produce their own sanitizing soap not only for job sites but for donation to first responders as well as supplying Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE) to healthcare organizations.

Callahan also donated to Dana-Farber’s Emergency Response Fund, which provides resources for unanticipated and significant costs to keep cancer patients safe and prevent the spread of infection, new expenses for immediate implementation of telemedicine technology, the expansion of important psychosocial support resources for patients and staff, and more. The donation was made as a sponsorship for “Lunch with Lisa”, a webinar run by Nickerson, a full-service branding, marketing and communications agency with offices in Boston and Miami. The webinar was held on May 14, 2020, and featured Dr. Laurie Glimcher, President and CEO of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, discussing how “Cancer Doesn’t Stop for a Pandemic.”

“Callahan is committed to supporting the brave men and women who are keeping our communities safe and healthy during the pandemic,” said Patrick Callahan, President of Callahan Construction Managers. “These courageous first responders and healthcare workers risk their health their every day, and it’s important we provide them with the support they need. We hope our donations help keep them safe and boost their spirits.”

Callahan Construction Managers (Callahan) continues construction at Breakwater in Lynn, MA. The Dolben Company, Inc. is developing the future luxury waterfront apartment complex, with HDS Architecture serving as the architect. Callahan’s team has started to oversee the structural steel construction, with wood framing scheduled to start in June. The project remains on-schedule despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

The multifamily development will include 331 apartments in two buildings with a total of 481,201 square-feet, as well as on-site below grade and on grade parking. In addition to spectacular waterfront views, Breakwater will feature many high-end amenities such as two, waterfront, third-floor outdoor amenity decks/courtyards, a fitness center, game room, pet wash, and outdoor fire pit. There will also be a harborwalk along the waterfront, which will be available for public use.

The Breakwater apartment complex, which overlooks Lynn Harbor, will completely transform a section of real estate previously vacated for more than 35 years. The Breakwater project received two major grants from the State of Massachusetts. The first grant is an $1,000,000 infrastructure grant from the Seaport Economic Council for improvements to the seawall, to ensure the harbor is a viable place to live for years to come. The second grant is from MassWorks to help with traffic on the Lynnway, a busy highway that connects Lynn to Boston.

“Dolben has collaborated on multiple projects over the years with Callahan and have enjoyed working with the team each time,” said John O’Connor, Director of Development at Dolben. “We believe the project, owner and general contractor benefit when approaching a project like this as a single team. Covid-19 has created a whole new set of challenges, but Callahan has dealt with these head on from the beginning and am happy to say that to this date we have seen little to no impact to the project.”

“Given Breakwater’s waterfront location, Callahan has worked closely with Lynn Redevelopment, LLC, a joint venture between The Dolben Company, Inc. and Minco Development, and HDS Architecture to improve the resiliency of both the property and the harbor. Our extensive knowledge from other waterfront, multifamily residential projects has been utilized at Breakwater,” said Pat Callahan, President of Callahan Construction Managers. “Callahan has also collaborated extensively with all project teams to implement additional site safety protocols in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The Breakwater is scheduled for a March 2022 completion. For more information on the project visit https://www.dolben.com/communities/detail/breakwater.

Constructing Communities was designed to support the local communities where Callahan works, offering outreach through volunteerism, the hiring of local subcontractors and the purchase of local goods. Callahan’s corporate responsibility efforts are one of the reasons the company was named a “Top Work Place” by the Boston Globe in 2018.

Callahan Construction Managers (Callahan) announces that on Wednesday, February 12, 2020, students from Wentworth Institute for Technology’s (WIT) Construction Management Club toured the Hilton Garden Inn construction site.

Callahan officials hosted the visit, first providing students with an overview of the project and detailing its unique challenges. Students were then guided through an intimate tour of the construction site. The tour was co-led by a WIT construction management student, who is currently a co-op on the project. The students witnessed crews installing elevators and drywall and pouring concrete stairs.

Students learned how Callahan is using technology to complete the project. Project officials explained how the 3D coordination model is being used and integrated with other building systems. Students enjoyed the tour because it allowed them to apply the lessons they’ve learned in school.

“Callahan is committed to providing educational opportunities for students in the trades,” said Patrick Callahan, President of Callahan Construction Managers. “These students are the future of our industry, and it’s important we provide learning opportunities as construction continues to see major labor shortages. – Callahan Construction Managers (Callahan) today announced the completion of its work on the new dual-branded Hampton Inn & Homewood Suites Hotel in Woburn, Mass, which opened in late September 2019. Owned by Concord Madison Woburn, LLC, the hotel was designed by architecture and design firm Group One and is managed by Concord Hospitality, an award-winning hotel development and management company.

The new six-story, 147,780-square-foot building and mixed-use hotel property is located at 371 Washington Street and boasts 235 total rooms, with 132 Hampton rooms and 103 Homewood suites.

“The new Hampton Inn & Homewood Suites Hotel offers guests all the comforts of home in a beautiful, modern building,” said Harry Wheeler, principal at Group One Architects. “Our collaboration with Callahan early in the design process was crucial, as we were required to work around various environmental concerns.”

The hotel is part of the Woburn Landing redevelopment project, which was built on previously contaminated land and required special permitting. Callahan held numerous meetings with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and other environmental groups during the construction process to ensure stringent guidelines were addressed. Callahan met requirements by preserving and maintaining access to monitoring wells on the property. Furthermore, Callahan equipped the hotel with special ventilation and a vapor barrier system to prevent future contamination.

“When we started this project, our goal was to build a quality hotel with careful consideration for environmental factors. We’re proud to say we’ve turned that objective into a reality,” said Steve Callahan, Vice President of Business Development at Callahan. “This project required extensive planning given the unique environmental permitting standards. I am proud of how our team worked diligently with the EPA, Group One, Concord Madison Woburn, LLC, and Concord Hospitality to develop innovative and creative solutions to all obstacles faced.”

The property has incorporated numerous contemporary amenities for guests shared across both the Homewood Suites and Hampton Inn, including an indoor swimming pool, business and fitness center, along with terraces, bars, lobbies, and kitchens designated for each hotel brand.

The property is conveniently located to I-95 and I-93, just minutes from the Woburn Mall and Cummings Business Park. Guests also have nearby access to the Mishawum MBTA subway system, allowing easy transportation to Boston.
